L1 refers to the Organization process level. Level 1 identifies the organizational function to which the process belongs, for example, administration, finance, human resources, information technology, sales, marketing, or production. L2 refers to the Category process level. This level groups the different processes of an organizational function into groups. L3 refers to the Process process level. This level specifies a particular process within a group. L4 refers to the Activity process level. This level defines the high-level process flow, and is an area when many people struggle. The better approach is to break the process into activities, each with a corresponding process map.
